Pot Noodle

Pot Noodle is a brand of instant noodle snack foods, available in a selection of flavours and varieties.

This dehydrated food consists of wide noodles, assorted dried vegetables and flavouring powder. It is prepared by adding boiling water, which after two to three minutes softens the noodles and dissolves the powdered sauce. The product is packaged in a plastic pot, from which the prepared noodles can be eaten. Many pots contain a sachet of sauce, such as soy sauce. Pot Noodle has been linked to lad culture, with its advertising and packaging being viewed as controversial and sexist.

Instant noodles were originally developed in 1958 by Momofuku Ando as Cup Noodle. Golden Wonder launched the Pot Noodle brand in the United Kingdom in 1977. In July 1995 Best Foods, which produces Hellmanns mayonnaise, paid then owner Dalgety plc $280 million for its Golden Wonder Pot Noodle instant hot snacks manufacturing business. Bestfoods, known as CPC international before 1997, was itself acquired by Unilever in 2000. Unilever kept the Pot Noodle brand and its sole production factory, after it sold the rest of the Golden Wonder business in 2006 to Tayto. Golden Wonder later established another line of pot noodles called The Nation's Noodle (renamed Noodle Pot in 2016) in direct competition with their former brand.

Pot Noodles are manufactured in Croespenmaen, near Crumlin, Caerphilly, Wales, which became the topic of a 2006 advertising campaign, showing fictitious Pot Noodle mines in Wales. The factory typically produces 175 million pots annually.

Samyang ramen

Samyang ramen (Instant Noodles) is instant ramen made by Samyang Foods, a Korean grocery company. The total length of the ramen is 50 meters.

It was launched as the first ramen in Korea on September 15, 1963, replacing rice for the purpose of overcoming food shortage in Korea, which was torn by the Korean War. This product started to be produced by two machines when Jung-Yun Jun, the founder of Samyang Foods, brought the machines from "Myo-Jo-Shokuhin (Japanese: Meiji Foods)".

The chicken soup and the orange cover of the product were first shown at a price of 10 won per 100g. After trial and error for three years, it was loved as a representative of Korea's ramen, However, it was hit hard by the "industrial oil case" in 1989.

On November 3, 1989, the prosecution received an anonymous letter saying, “There is use of industrial oil in ramen,” and the prosecution arrested five companies’ representatives, including the representative of Samyang Foods, according to the “Act on Special Measures for the Control of Health Offenses” and “Food Sanitation Act”. The press confused the public by using the term ' industrial tallow '.

On November 6, 1989, the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs, and Health ruled that ramen is harmless to humans. On November 28, all the representatives were released. However, the company has lost its trust. Also, as the result of stopping the production, employees lost their jobs.

A ramen which tasted like the first taste of chicken soup was released with the title ' The Classic' in September 2009. However, it was later discontinued.

On March 23, 2010, Jun Joong-yoon, founder of the company, resigned as honorary chairman, and Jeon In-jang took office.

In June 2008, foreign substances were discovered in ramen products produced by Samyang Foods and Nongshim. On June 13, a metal nut was found in a "Large Cup of Delicious Ramen" and a cockroach was found on June 17 in Nong Shim’s ramen.

The 16th article of Chosun Ilbo criticized the detection of foreign objects in Samyang Ramen. However, it did not report the detection of cockroaches in Nongshim’s ramen. It made netizens strongly criticize Chosun Ilbo. As a result, the netizens complained, "Let 's eat Samyang ramen noodles," and the "Samyang ramen purchasing campaign" has spread among netizens.

Science Noodles

imageScience Noodles

Science Noodles(Chinese: ; pinyin: kēxuémiàn; literally: "Science Noodles") are a brand of instant noodle that is marketed in Taiwan by the Uni-President Enterprises Corporation. Unlike normal instant noodles, they are usually eaten without cooking the noodles. Instead, the bag is crushed with the ramen noodles inside, and seasoning added using the included spices. In fact, the real popularity of Science Noodles lies in this method of consumption, as it is eaten like a snack food. Because of this, most packaging no longer contains instructions for cooking the noodles.

Science Noodles entered the market in 1970, known as the brand "Taiwan Instant Noodles." In the 1970s Taiwan market lacked many consumer goods, so children's snacks were rare. However, at the time a pack of Science Noodles was only 2.5 NT$, which created demand as a children's snack.

By the mid 1980s, Science Noodles began to compete with the more favored instant noodle brand, Prince Noodles. Despite the competition between the two, Taiwanese consumers tended to purchase the former due to its larger portion compared with the latter.

Shin Ramyun

imageShin Ramyun

Shin Ramyun/Ramyeon is a brand of instant noodle (including cup ramyeon) that is produced by a South Korean food company Nongshim since October, 1986. It is now exported to over 100 countries, and is the highest selling instant noodle brand in South Korea.

Shin Ramyun is well known for its spicy flavor. It is produced in two kinds: Shin Ramyun, the original one, and Shin Ramyun Black, which was introduced in 2011. A standard package of Shin Ramyun consists of noodles, a sachet of flavoring powder (soup base), and a sachet of vegetable flakes. Shin Ramyun Black contains extra beef stock soup.

Shin Ramyun was introduced in October 1986 by Nongshim. The Nongshim R&D team came up with the idea of Sogogijanguk, a Cabbage and Beef Stew, which is one of the most popular traditional South Korean dishes.

After Shin Ramyun was introduced, Nongshim’s market share hit 46.3% in 1987, and exceeded 50% for the first time in 1988 (53.8%). With the market share of over 20% just by itself, Shin Ramyun is a leading brand of the instant noodles in Korea.

In 2015, Shin Ramyun has achieved 28 billion units sold since it was first introduced. Shin Ramyun is listed on the National Brand Consumption Index (NBCI) as the number 1 brand in South Korea (2012~2016) for its brand awareness and brand power.

The name of Shin Ramyun is from a Chinese character Shin (辛), which means “spicy.” Shin Ramyun uses red and black packaging with the emphasized calligraphic word “辛”. The meaning of the Chinese character is shown on the background of the package. Nongshim decided to emphasize the Chinese character Shin (辛) for their brand with a belief that a single Chinese character delivers the brand image better than written in Korean. Additionally, the character is the surname of both the founder of Nongshim and his elder brother, who started Lotte.

Chaudhary Group (CG Global) is a multi-national conglomerate company headquartered in Nepal. It has diversified business interests including financial services, fast-moving consumer goods, education, hospitality, energy, EPC, consumer electronics, realty, biotech and Ayurveda. The group runs 136 companies under 15 different business verticals across all five continents.

The group traces its history to Binod’s grandfather late Mr. Bhuramull Chaudhary towards the end of the eighteenth century. A resident of Churi-Ajitgarh village in Shekhawati district of Indian state Rajasthan, he was invited to Nepal at the behest of erstwhile Rana rulers to do business. He sold clothes to the royalty and high-end customers in Kathmandu going from door to door, and later started his own store in Kathmandu.

It was Binod’s father late Lunkaran Das Chaudhary who actually laid the foundations of the group. He imported high-end consumer electronics and ready-made garments from Japan, South Korea, Europe and India and started Nepal’s first departmental store Arun Emporium in 1968. He also exported Jute to the U.S. and Europe in the early 1960s when Nepal’s trade with outside world was limited to India. He is claimed to have started many new business ventures in Nepal, such as construction company, flooring and furnishing, and exporting manufactured food (biscuits) to India, as Binod has written in his autobiography.
