Energy mints commonly contain caffeine, taurine, various forms of ginseng, B vitamins, or other herbal ingredients. Some contain high levels of sugar, while a few are sugar-free. These mints are popular among young people, computer programmers, gamers, and students.

According to the Wall Street Journal (February 13, 2008), energy mints are part of a relatively new and rapidly expanding "Energy Candy" trend. Excel (gum)

Wrigley's Excel is a line of chewing gum and mints available in Canada since 1991. Eclipse is the American version of Excel.

For many years, Excel used the slogan "Excel-erate your breath", which has recently been replaced by "Eat, drink, chew, Excel". The advertisements are using food creatures since 2010, the same characters that Extra gum is using.

In January 2006, a sub-brand named "Excel Extreme", with flavors Fuse, Voltage, Charge and Shock, was released, replacing the Excel cherry and lemon flavours. A year later, an American version called Wrigley's 5 was created, but the gum was sold in sticks instead of pellets. The Excel Extreme brand was replaced by Wrigley's 5 in 2008.

In June 2008, Wrigley's replaced Freedent Total with Excel White. It is currently available in three flavours : Spearmint, Bubblemint and Winterfresh.

A Canadian version of Orbit Mist introduced in 2010.

Here is a list of the current flavours :

Excel Classic :

Excel White :

Excel Mist :

Excel Mints :

During the duration of the Winter Olympics of 2010, each piece of gum had a small edible maple leaf printed on to support the Canadian Olympic Team. In partnership with Chinese Stomatological Association in 2012, Excel released the first dental health app in China-Ai Ya Qing Song Xue(爱牙轻松学),developed by FabriQate.

In advertisements, the food creatures, donut, coffee, garlic, onion, green onion, pizza and cigarette, follow people. But when they take an Excel gum piece, food creatures run away showing that gum makes bad breath disappear.

Frisk (confectionery)

image Product type Confectionery Owner " >Frisk

Frisk is the name of a line of breath mint candies produced by Frisk International and distributed worldwide by Perfetti Van Melle. Frisk mints are small, pellet-like mint candies contained in a plastic cartridge.

Frisk was invented in 1986 by a Belgian entrepreneur who, in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company, developed the formula for a particularly strong mint-flavoured candy. Initially, the product was sold exclusively in pharmacies in Belgium, then the market was extended to the Netherlands, Canada and Japan. Especially in the latter country, Frisk gained considerable success, to the point that in 1996 it became the first imported product to obtain recognition as the "Best Food Product of the Year" in Japan. Since 1995, the brand has been distributed by Perfetti Van Melle.

In the Japanese television show Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!!, comedian Endō Shōzo performs a running gag during their "Absolutely Tasty" cooking segments, into which he adds Frisk candies, hoping to obtain a sponsorship with Frisk by using their product. Instead of enhancing the dishes he creates, it often leads to hilarious results.

Halls (cough drop)

imageHalls Cough Drops

Halls is the brand name of a popular mentholated cough drop. Halls cough drops (categorized as a cough suppressant/oral anaesthetic by the manufacturer) are sold by the Cadbury-Adams Division of Cadbury, now owned by Mondelēz International, and have long been advertised as featuring "Vapor Action". Halls was first made in the 1930s in Stanley Road, Whitefield, Lancashire, United Kingdom by the Halls Brothers company (founded 1893). Halls Brothers was acquired by Warner-Lambert in 1964. Production in Whitefield ceased in the late 1980s. When Pfizer acquired Warner-Lambert in 2000, the Halls brand came with the entire Adams portfolio (which included Trident gum, Dentyne, Chiclets and Freshen Up, among others). Two years later, Adams was bought out by Cadbury, who were subsequently purchased by Kraft foods, which was later restructured and renamed Mondelēz International - as of 2015, Mondelēz International owns the Halls brand worldwide.

The following Halls varieties are listed on Cadbury's UK web site.

The "Soothers" varieties do not list menthol on their ingredients and their packaging does not describe them as a medicine or specify any dosage instructions, but supermarkets frequently categorise them as common cold treatment.

The menthol ingredient acts as local anesthetic and "creates a cooling sensation". Also acts as a cough suppressant.

The Halls Defense line consists of flavorings containing Vitamin C but do not contain menthol and suppress coughs.

Halls Fruit Breezers, launched as a non-mentholated lozenge, comes in many flavors such as: Cool Berry, Cool Creamy Orange, Cool Creamy Strawberry, Tropical Chill, and Cool Citrus Blend.

Ice Breakers (candy)

Ice Breakers is a sugar-free brand of gum and disc-shaped mint candy currently made by Hershey. Ice Breakers are sold in the United States, Canada and Asia.

They were first produced by Nabisco in 1996, then acquired by Hershey in 2000. They come in several flavors, including peppermint, wintergreen, cinnamon, the new iced-tea, fruit sours (made up of a mixture of 4 sour flavors: pink lemonade, apple, tangerine, and watermelon), berry sours (a mix of 3 flavors: originally, berry splash, strawberry and raspberry lemonade; as of mid-2010, green apple, watermelon, and tangerine), and tropical sours (a mix of flavors: tangerine passion, lime coconut, peach fruit, and mango margarita). The candies are generally white in color and speckled with other colors to indicate their flavor. These candies are sugar-free, instead using Sorbitol as a sweetener. When consumed in large amounts, such as eating a whole tin in one sitting, it has been found that this artificial sweetener causes a profound laxative effect in many people.

Ice Breakers mints are sold in round cases, approximately 3 in (7.6 cm) in diameter and .6 in (2 cm) in height. These cases were originally made of a drawn steel bottom and an injection molded top with two hinged plastic flaps, a larger one labeled "To Share" and a smaller one "Not To Share". Their design was changed in mid-2006 to be made entirely out of plastic, while switching the labels for the flaps (small flap labeled "To Share" and large flap labeled "Not to Share") to make sense from a hygiene perspective. In 2015, the labels from the flap were changed, again. The small flap labeled "ONE" and the large flap labeled "MANY." All cases depict the fruit flavor contained inside.

There was also a type of Ice Breaker mint named "Liquid Ice". Manufactured in Japan, they are small, spherical gel pellets that, as they melt in your mouth, secrete a flavoured mint oil. The Liquid Ice candies are often criticized for having a somewhat bitter flavor due to its use of Neotame as a sweetener. They were discontinued after a year due to lackluster sales.

Another mint that was created under the Ice Breakers label was Pacs, breath mint strips formed into envelopes and filled with a powdered breath mint candy inside which released as the envelopes dissolved in the mouth. Pacs drew heavy criticism and negative press due to the Pacs' resemblance to drug packets. They were promptly discontinued after a few months of release.

Ipso (candy)

imageIpso

Ipso was a -style candy manufactured by Nicholas International Ltd. and sold in Great Britain during the 1970s through 1980s. Ipso candies were similar to Tic Tac and were produced in four flavours, strawberry, lime, orange, and mint. The packaging was designed to resemble interlocking toy plastic building bricks like Lego, allowing the boxes to be stacked or connected. The boxes came in four colours reflecting the flavour of the candy inside: red for strawberry, green for lime, orange for orange, and blue for mint.

The advertising campaign, "Ipso Calypso", featured a man eating the sweets and daydreaming about West Indian and Jamaican dancers on a train platform. A woman interrupted the man's daydream to warn him that he would miss his train. The tagline for the sweets was "A little refreshment will take you a long way".
