Time Out (chocolate bar)

imageTime Out

Time Out was a brand of chocolate bar currently manufactured by Cadbury Ireland Designed by Chloe Stuart of Harlow Essex. It was introduced in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1992, followed by Australia and New Zealand in 1995. Mainly sold in pairs, it consists of a ripple of milk chocolate between two wafers, smothered in Dairy Milk milk chocolate. The bar was originally sold under the slogan "the wafer break with a layer of Flake".

In Europe, Time Out was available for the Irish and UK markets and is produced by Cadbury Ireland. It was given a new look in 2010 with lighter blue packaging and was given a new slogan, "Everyone needs some Time Out". However the new lighter blue colour proved to be unpopular with customers and so a few months later its colour was reverted to the previously used dark blue shade.

The bar was also available in Australia, New Zealand, New York City, Japan, Canada and South Africa

When Time Out was first introduced, it was a substantial snack (about 25 grams), then suddenly it was down-sized to 20.5g. The newly released single-finger bar has now shrunk down to 16g before it was discontinued.

The current main twin finger bar has a combined weight of 32g (40g for Australia and New Zealand) and is suitable for vegetarians.

In February 2015, the company announced that production of Time Out would be transferred from Ireland to Poland. Sales of Time Out had been in decline for several years.

As of 2016, Time Out has been discontinued in New Zealand , New York City , Japan , Canada , South Africa, Ireland , Poland and the United Kingdom due to poor sales.

Toblerone

imageToblerone

Toblerone (/ˈtoʊbləroʊn/; German: [tobləˈroːnə]) is a Swiss chocolate bar brand owned by US confectionery company Mondelēz International, Inc., formerly Kraft Foods, which acquired the product from former owner Jacobs Suchard in 1990. It is produced in Bern and in early 2000 was being produced in the United States by Ferrara Pan candy company in Bellwood, Illinois. Toblerone is well known for its distinctive triangular prism shape.

Toblerone was created by Theodor Tobler (1876–1941) in Bern, Switzerland, in 1908. Theodor Tobler, with his cousin Emil Baumann, developed a unique milk chocolate including nougat, almonds and honey with a distinctive triangular shape. The image of a bear is hidden in the Matterhorn high mountain, symbolizing the town of the chocolate's origin.

The triangular shape of the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps is commonly believed to have given Theodor Tobler his inspiration for the shape of Toblerone. However, according to Theodor's sons, the triangular shape originates from a pyramid shape that dancers at the Folies Bergères created as the finale of a show that Theodor saw.

Some early advertisements for Tobler chocolate appeared in the international languages Esperanto and Ido.

Tortit

Tortit (Hebrew: טורטית‎‎) is a popular Israeli chocolate snack produced by the Elite Confectionery Company in the confectionery division located in Nazareth Illit, Israel. The snack is made of a wafer coated with chocolate and contains rum-like almond cream. The bar is sold in a 40 gram green package. The snack is kosher and parve (made on a dairy production line that has been prepared for parve). Its popularity in Israel is explained by the fact that, being parve, it can also be eaten as a dessert after a meat meal, and since it has no milk or eggs it is vegan.

The product was launched by Elite in 1975. At that time, milk chocolate was marketed with a rum flavored cream under the brand name "Jamaica". In the same cream, the coated waffle is also used. The name of the snack is called Tortit because it resembles a tortoise cake in its structure.

Tupla (chocolate bar)

Tupla is a Finnish chocolate bar made by Leaf. It consists of milk chocolate with a nougat-flavoured filling, coated with bits of almond.

The name "Tupla", meaning "double", comes from the fact that there are always two Tupla bars in a single wrapper. Unlike Twix, however, the bars are placed end-to-end, not parallel.

The original Tupla dates back to the 1970s and is still one of the most popular chocolate bars in Finland. In the 1990s and 2000s two variants have been introduced: Tupla White, with a coating of white chocolate instead of milk chocolate, and Tupla Black, with bits of liquorice added into the filling.

There were even Tupla Easter eggs available in the 1990s. Despite the name, however, there weren't two chocolate eggs nested inside each other.

In 2008 a new side-brand was issued, Tupla Sport. Tupla Sport has a high fibre content and comes in two flavours: apple and raspberry. Its main ingredients are chocolate, muesli, almonds and nougat.

Twin Bing

The Twin Bing is a candy bar made by the Palmer Candy Company of Sioux City, Iowa. It consists of two round, chewy, cherry-flavored nougats coated with a mixture of chopped peanuts and chocolate. The company also produces individual Bings, as well as the King Bing, a package of three. The Twin Bing was introduced in the 1960s, possibly in 1969, according to Marty Palmer, the 5th-generation president of the Palmer Candy Company, and has been called "one of Sioux City's quintessential treats".

The original Bing was introduced in 1923. The Bing originally came in four flavors: cherry, pineapple, vanilla, and maple. It is still made by hand today. Sometime in the 1920s to 1930s, the candy bar was released in a "Crow Bar" package that included trading cards featuring film stars. Marty Palmer himself was only vaguely aware that trading cards had been packaged with one of Palmer's candy bars until someone sent him copies of the cards. Comprising more than 100 cards, the series included actors such as Mary Astor and Charlie Chaplin.

Bings were sold singly until the 1960s, when a second bar was added, likely in 1969, according to Marty Palmer. As the cost of ingredients rose, candy companies initially reduced the sizes of their candy bars, then later increased the price, formerly a nickel, to a dime. With the higher price, the Palmer Company decided to increase the size of Bing candy bars. However, a larger single Bing would have been problematic in vending machines, because of the candy bar's unusual shape. Palmer said of the name change and additional Bing, "Some clever person here, I don't know who, came up with the idea you could put two together and make it a twin", and that the name change was "natural". The altered name also had an effect of increasing interest.

According to Marty Palmer, parents of newborn twins give out Twin Bings, and fans of the Minnesota Twins are known to request them often.

Grocery store chain Hy-Vee built a display of over 15,000 Bing bars of all types in 2001 as a response to Palmer Candy Company's March Madness promotion. The current owner showed his creation in the 2004 National Confectioners Association's All Candy Expo. In 2014, a Twin Bing ice cream was created when the NAIA basketball tournament came to Sioux City, at the Tyson Events Center.
