There are currently 857 permitted private satellite television stations in India. As of 2 December 2015, there are also more than 190 government channels. Hindi-language television channels have the highest market share. Numerous regional channels are also available throughout India, often distributed according to languages.

List of Konkani-language television channels


The following is a list of television channels that broadcast wholly or partly in Konkani, an Indo-Aryan language belonging to the Southern branch of the language family (along with Marathi) and spoken by around 2 million people, mainly in pockets along the west coast of India, especially the area in and around Goa, as well as in districts of Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the south and east. Due to its relatively small number of speakers (compared with other regional Indian languages whose native speakers number in the tens of millions), there are relatively few monolingual Konkani television stations.

Marathi-language television


The Marathi language television industry was started in India in 1984. Although earlier confined to a half an hour slot in the national television Doordarshan, the industry has now expanded with many commercial TV channels currently on air. Various dedicated categories like news and movies have been added and have considerably expanded the horizon of Marathi TV entertainment.

Marathi programming on TV started on 2 October 1972 (Gandhi Jayanti) on the state-owned Doordarshan channel. It was originally confined to a two-hour slot using a small transmitter that served few TV households.

On 15 August 1994 (Independence Day) Doordarshan launched DD Sahyadri as the first dedicated Marathi-language channel. DD Sahyadri was initially called RLSS Marathi.

On 15 August 1999, Zee Network launched Alpha Marathi which was later renamed to Zee Marathi. This period saw many new channels being launched including ETV's ETV Marathi (2000), Prabhat TV and Tara Marathi. However, both Prabhat and Tara were shut down in 2002.

Star TV started its GEC Star Pravah in 2008 with flagship serial Raja Shivachhatrapati on the life of Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Fakt Marathi started in March 2016, Mumbai-based firm Enterr10 Television Pvt. Ltd owns the channel.

The Marathi Television got its first round-the-clock news channel in the form of Zee 24 Taas in the year 2007. STAR TV launched its Marathi news channel Star Majha in June 2007, which was later named as ABP Majha from 1 June 2012. Television 18 & Lokmat together formed a joint venture to launch IBN Lokmat in 2008. In 2009, TV9 Maharashtra launched. On 1 May 2013 another channel launched, namely Jai Maharashtra, by Mumbai based media group Sahana Films.maay marathi channel Between hundreds of various channels containing entertainment, news, music, sports and various material for audience, a innovative step has been taken by Manoj Kore Media House Pvt. Ltd by introducing a new channel “MAAY MARATHI” which is 24 X 7 News & Entertainment TV Channel on 24th April 2016 at Hotel The Orchid in Mumbai. This channel aims at satisfying intellectual, educational, socio-cultural, eco-political needs of all who love Maharashtra and Marathi. The channel will be having various types of programs, like daily soaps, news, entertainment, etc.

Life OK (Hindi: लाइफ ओके) is a Hindi language Indian cable and satellite television channel based in India, part of STAR India, which is fully owned by The ShowMaker Company and 21st Century Fox. The channel launched on 18 December 2011, and is distributed in many parts of the world. The channel replaced STAR India's now defunct youth-oriented channel STAR One.

Life OK started their HD version in India with high definition 1080i picture quality And 5.1 Dolby digital sound in October 2012. It is currently available on Tata Sky, Videocon D2H and Dish TV.

The channel launched in the United States on 1 March 2012, though its programs were aired on STAR India One prior to its launch. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Life OK also ran under the STAR One brand until 28 May 2012, when it became Star Life OK.

Content development for Life OK was handled by Sanjog Gupta, while programming was originally headed by Dimpi Dey, and now by Sushma Rajesh.

On 9 September 2012, Life OK's mythological drama Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev recorded an 8.2 TVR, its highest TRP of 167.
