Jasuben Pizza

Jasuben Pizza is a pizza parlor in Ahmedabad, a city in Gujarat, a state in Western India. It is located in the Law garden area and was opened by a woman named Jasuben Shah (ben is an honorific title given to women in Gujarati) after she got married and migrated from Pune to Ahmedabad in 1976. After the business became a success, she and her family expanded to six branches in the city. Although Jasuben herself moved back to Pune in the 90s, her business partner Joravar Singh Rajput still runs the business in Ahmedabad. A lot of media attention came in 2013 after Gujarat's Chief Minister, Narendra Modi called it a prime example of female entrepreneurship in his speech at FICCI.

It is reported that Jasuben started this business in 1990s with a couple named Andarben and Jorawar Singh Rajput. After they started making pizzas, Jasuben moved back to Pune where she lived earlier but Andarben continued to run the business. It was Andarben who later developed a "secret recipe" of the sauce that is still used in their pizzas. It is also reported that at a point in time they were presumably selling more pizzas than Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza combined within the city.

The type of pizza served is an Indianized version of the original Italian one. It has been adapted to Gujarati taste. The version served at Jasuben's uses Mainda Flour, a thin crisp Indian bread as base and is laced with Sweet tomato puree, finely chopped onions and capsicum, covered with abundant amounts of local cheese and seasoned with black pepper. The oven used at their different branches was also designed and customized by Andarben and manufactured locally so that pizzas could be stacked on top of each other. The pizzeria sells 20,000 pizzas daily with each piece priced at ₹70 (US$1.10).

Pizza delivery

Pizza delivery is a service in which a pizzeria or pizza chain delivers a pizza to a customer. An order is typically made either by telephone or over the internet to the pizza chain, in which the customer can request pizza type, size and other products alongside the pizza, commonly including soft drinks. Pizzas may be delivered in pizza boxes or delivery bags, and deliveries are made with either an automobile, motor scooter, or bicycle. Customers can, depending on the pizza chain, choose to pay online, or in person, with cash, credit or a debit card. A delivery fee is usually charged with what the customer has bought.

Ordering pizza for delivery usually involves contacting a local pizza restaurant or chain by telephone or online. Online ordering is available in many countries, where some pizza chains offer online menus and ordering.

The pizza delivery industry has kept pace with technological developments since the 1980s beginning with the rise of the personal computer. Specialized computer software for the pizza delivery business helps determine the most efficient routes for carriers, track exact order and delivery times, manage calls and orders with PoS software, and other functions. Since 2008 GPS tracking technology has been used for real-time monitoring of delivery vehicles by customers over the Internet.

Some pizzerias, such as the Ontario-based Canadian chain Pizza Pizza, will incorporate a guarantee to deliver within a predetermined period of time, or late deliveries will be free of charge. For example, Domino's Pizza had a commercial campaign in the 1980s and early 1990s which promised "30 minutes or it's free". This was discontinued in the United States in 1993 due to the number of lawsuits arising from accidents caused by hurried delivery drivers, but is still offered in some countries. Pizzerias with no time guarantee will commonly state to the customer an approximate time frame for a delivery, without making any guarantees as to the actual delivery time.

According to Domino's, Super Bowl Sunday is the most popular day for its pizza deliveries; others are Halloween, New Year's Day, New Year's Eve, and the day before Thanksgiving. Unscheduled events may also cause an increase in pizza deliveries; for example, Domino's stated that its sales during the O. J. Simpson slow-speed chase were as large as on Super Bowl Sunday.

Pizzeria Napoli (Baghdad)

The Pizzeria Napoli is a pizza restaurant in Baghdad, Iraq. The owner Waleed Al Bayati (sometimes in western press as Walid Khalid) previously lived in Italy and along with his brother, set up the restaurant on Saturday, June 27, 2003 after the fall of Saddam Hussein's government after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He made a risk business selling pizza to coalition troops, and even received a mobile phone from American forces to receive orders. The restaurant was also popular with western reporters including Washington Post bureau chief Rajiv Chandrasekaran who would order several pizzas for his staff.

Upon returning from Italy, Al Bayati rented a space on Yafa Street on the north side of the Green Zone. Although pizza was not considered popular to Iraqis, he set out to build an authentic Italian restaurant. He hired a local bricklayer to build a wood fire pizza oven, used a dairy near Abu Ghraib prison to make customized mozzarella cheese and a farmer who grew tomatoes similar to those grown in Tuscany. Basil and oregano came from his own garden. The business had to endure frequent blackouts.

The restaurant suffered as the insurgency flared in Iraq and in December 2004, a suicide bomber blew up outside of coalition headquarters and severely damaged the restaurant, among other buildings nearby. After the nearby bombing, security to the street where the restaurant is located was increased. While the work environment was safer, by 2008 business was down and less reporters used it. However, the business remained open for years afterward.
