Bacon Deluxe

imageBacon Deluxe

The Bacon Deluxe is a bacon-topped hamburger offered at international fast food chain Wendy's. It is Wendy's entry into the premium sandwich category, "something other hamburger chains have used to compete with fast-casual restaurants." Burger King offers the Steakhouse XT Burger and McDonald's has had an Angus Third Pounder. The Bacon Deluxe was launched with an extensive media campaign and priced at $3.99 for a single, $4.99 for a double and $5.99 for a triple, and is being launched alongside another Wendy's bacon sandwich: the Baconator.

The single patty version debuted in October 2009 with a suggested price of $3.99 and contained 640 calories. The triple packs a "whopping 1,140 calories and more saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium than anyone should eat in a single day," and topped a list of the five most unhealthful gourmet burgers sold by national fast-food restaurant chains. The Bacon Deluxe is made with "fresh, never-frozen North American beef with a more expensive bun and thick, center-cut applewood bacon".

The single burger order contains four strips of smoked bacon, a beef patty, American cheese and vegetables. The double burger order contains two beef patties, four strips of smoked bacon, American cheese, ketchup and mayo. The triple burger order contains three beef patties topped with four strips of smoked bacon, American cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and dill pickle with ketchup and mayo.

In May 2009, Wendy’s/Arby’s Restaurant Group President-CEO Roland Smith told analysts that Wendy's would release a new cheeseburger that:

"...will feature juicier beef, an improved bun, bacon cooked from scratch in our stores and improved packaging. We believe this great new cheeseburger will strengthen Wendy’s position as having the best tasting and highest quality hamburger in the QSR universe."

Baconator

imageBaconator

The Baconator sandwich is a hamburger sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Wendy's.

The Baconator was introduced in April 2007 as part of a "back to basics" reorganization by Wendy's new CEO Kerri Anderson. The addition of the product was part of a push to add menu items that appeal to the 18- to 34-year-old demographic and expand late-night sales. This product and others, coupled with a new advertising program, contributed to an increase in store sales of approximately 11% during the period of five fiscal quarters ending in October 2007.

The name Baconator is a federal and international trademark of Wendy's International, for use in the US and internationally. On June 17, 2008, Baconator became a registered federal trademark.

As a cross promotion with the Canadian Football League, the Baconator has been named the official burger of the league. They held a promotion running from April–May 2009 in which special scratch tickets shaped like bacon were given out with each purchase. In addition to being able to enter a draw to win an Xbox 360 by texting the number, the person could enter the numbers on the internet to win a chance to compete in a halftime CFL contest to build a giant Baconator, with the winner getting $25,000. This was termed the 'Baconator Boot Camp'. During the promotion, the store workers wore T-shirts advertising the contest. On August 14, 2009, Pete Richardson from Halifax, Nova Scotia won the contest and the prize of $25,000, in front of a capacity crowd of 24,754 at the Rogers Centre.

Big Classic

The Big Classic sandwich was a hamburger sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Wendy's. The sandwich was intended to present a larger, meatier burger that appealed to the 18- to 36-year-old male demographic that desired a "heartier" product. It is one of only two named hamburger products sold by the company and was designed to compete against the Burger King Whopper sandwich.

The Big Classic was a hamburger, consisting of a ¼ pound (113 g) beef patty, lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, ketchup, onions, pickles and grill seasoning served on Kaiser style roll. Cheese could be added upon request.

The Big Classic was introduced in September 1986 as part of a line of sandwiches that were launched during a major corporate restructuring of Wendy's. Initially, it was in a clamshell-style styrofoam container that form-fitted the sandwich but was replaced later on with its signature foil wrapper as a result of environmental concerns. Some years later the recipe was changed so that two strips of bacon were added, and the name changed to the Big Bacon Classic. It was replaced on the menu with the Baconator in June 2007, but one can still order the sandwich. The Big Bacon Classic returned to Wendy's menu in October 2009, was called the Bacon Deluxe, and contained four strips of bacon instead of two until its discontinuation in June 2012. The Bacon Deluxe was replaced on the menu by the Son of Baconator. If a customer wants a Bacon Deluxe, they can now add three pieces of bacon to a single, double, or triple classic cheeseburger.

Frescata

Frescata was a registered trademark of Wendy's restaurants, and was used to refer to its now-discontinued line of cold sandwiches. The products were made in a "deli" style, and designed to compete with Subway and Blimpie's food offerings. The Frescata product did not offer the "watch while it's made" format as other sandwich shops offer. Due to poor sales and long preparation times, the product has been dropped. The sandwiches in the Frescata line included the Frescata Club, Roasted Turkey & Swiss, Black Forest Ham & Swiss and Chunky Chicken Salad Frescata. The original lineup had the Roasted Turkey with Basil Pesto in place of the Chunky Chicken Salad. The Frescata was introduced in April 2006, and disengagement began in December 2007.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the word "Frescata" does not appear to mean anything in any other language, including Italian, referenced in the name of the Frescata Italiana sandwich. According to the article, the word Frescata was coined to bring to mind the word "fresh".

The words mean something unintentional in another Mediterranean language, Modern Greek. The words "fresca scata" (φρέσκα σκατά) mean "fresh shit", and Frescata is easily read as a contraction of this, similar to writing "Freshit" in English.

Frosty (frozen dairy dessert)

The Frosty is the signature frozen dessert of Wendy’s fast-food restaurants, originally available only in chocolate, now in chocolate and vanilla flavors.

The dessert is a type of frozen dairy dessert. It was only available as chocolate until vanilla was introduced in 2006 after repeated requests by consumers. Although the Wendy's on Central Ave in Yonkers has had the Vanilla Frosty since 1993.

The Frosty was invented by Borden's dairyman John Bowers at the request of Wendy's owner, Dave Thomas. When the first Wendy's opened in 1969, chocolate, which is actually a combination of chocolate and vanilla (swirl), was the only flavor offered. Dave Thomas thought that 100 percent chocolate would be too overpowering a flavor when paired with a Wendy's burger and fries meal. A second flavor, vanilla, was introduced in 2006.
