Tim Hortons, Inc.

Tim Hortons Inc. (known internationally as Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop) is a multinational fast food restaurant based in Canada, known for its coffee and donuts. It is also Canada's largest quick service restaurant chain; as of September 30, 2016, it had a total of 4,492 restaurants in nine countries.

It was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade, after an initial venture in hamburger restaurants. In 1967, Horton partnered with investor Ron Joyce, who assumed control over operations after Horton died in 1974. Joyce expanded the chain into a multimillion-dollar franchise. Charade left the organization in 1966 and briefly returned in 1970 and 1993 through 1996.

On August 26, 2014, Burger King agreed to purchase Tim Hortons for US$11.4 billion; the chain became a subsidiary of the Oakville-based holding company Restaurant Brands International on December 15, 2014, which is majority-owned by Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital.

The chain's first store opened on May 17, 1964, in Hamilton, Ontario, under the name "Tim Horton Donuts"; the name was later abbreviated to "Tim Horton's" and then changed to "Tim Hortons" without the possessive apostrophe. The business was founded by Miles G."Tim" Horton, who played in the National Hockey League from 1949 until his death in a traffic collision in 1974. Horton had an initial venture in hamburger restaurants.

Soon after Horton opened the store, he met Ron Joyce, a former Hamilton police constable. In 1965, Joyce took over the fledgling Tim Horton Donut Shop on Ottawa Street North in Hamilton. By 1967, after he had opened up two more stores, he and Tim Horton became full partners in the business. Upon Horton's death in an auto crash in 1974, Joyce bought out the Horton family's shares for $1 million and took over as sole owner of the existing chain of forty stores. Joyce expanded the chain quickly and aggressively in geography and in product selection. The 500th store opened in 1991.

Greg Adams (ice hockey, born 1960)

Gregory Charles Adams (born May 31, 1960) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey forward who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1980 to 1990.

Adams was passed over in the NHL Amateur Draft and signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1979. In his final year in the WHL with the Victoria Cougars he scored 62 goals playing on a line with Barry Pederson. He turned pro in 1980 and spent the 1980–81 season with Flyers' farm team in Maine, and impressed in a 6-game stint in Philadelphia, scoring 3 goals. The following season he appeared in 33 games, scoring 19 points.

Adams was traded to the Hartford Whalers in the Mark Howe trade in the summer of 1982. In 1982–83, he spent his first full season in the NHL, scoring 10 goals and 23 points in 79 games. He established himself as a gritty, physical presence and registered 216 penalty minutes (PIM), the highest total of his career.

Adams was dealt again in the summer of 1983, this time to the Washington Capitals. While the Whalers had just 19 wins in 1982–83, the Capitals were one of the deepest squads in the league, and he found it more difficult to get ice time. In his first two years in Washington, he scored just 8 goals in 108 games, and was demoted briefly to the AHL. However, he established himself as a key member of the team in 1985–86, and put up surprising numbers with 18 goals and 56 points, along with 152 PIM. He continued to perform well over the next two seasons, posting totals of 14 and 15 goals while providing his usual physical presence.

Tom Bladon

Thomas George "Bomber" Bladon (born December 29, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and Detroit Red Wings. He won the Stanley Cup with the Flyers in 1974 and 1975. He currently lives in Alberta, where he owns a Tim Hortons.

He is best remembered for the game played on December 11, 1977, against the Cleveland Barons, in which he scored four goals and added four assists, becoming the first defenceman and only the fourth person in NHL history to record eight points (a feat accomplished only 15 times by 11 other players) in an NHL game. His plus/minus of +10 in that game is also an NHL record. Bladon's heavy slapshot from the point was a fixture of the Flyer's championship teams from the 1970s.

Gilbert Delorme

Gilbert Delorme (born November 25, 1962, in Boucherville, Quebec) is a retired professional ice hockey player who was a journeyman defenceman for five NHL teams. He played for the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins. Delorme was born in Boucherville, Quebec, but grew up in Longueuil, Quebec.

Delorme was selected by Montreal in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in the first round (18th overall). He spent nine seasons in the NHL.

He missed the entire 1990–91 season recovering from broken leg suffered in an auto accident during training in the summer of 1990. Pittsburgh won the Cup in 1991, but Delorme was left off the cup for missing the whole season

Delorme retired following the 1991–92 season in the minors. He then briefly held a front office position with the Penguins before attempting a comeback in the IHL. He spent three seasons in the IHL as an assistant coach, split between the Cleveland Lumberjacks and Manitoba Moose. He also spent two seasons with the Montreal Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before serving as head coach for one season.

He and his wife now own a Tim Hortons franchise in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Quebec, on Montreal's south shore.

"Duel Citizenship" is the fifth episode of the fifth season of the CBS situation comedy How I Met Your Mother and 93rd overall. It originally aired on October 19, 2009.

Future Ted explains that Robin's Canadian quirks and mannerisms were strange, which got her into trouble in the fall of 2009. After a bar fight, she is charged with assault and could be deported unless she gets American citizenship. Barney encourages her to take the citizenship test and teaches her to be obnoxious, arrogant and willfully ignorant—the hallmarks of a true American. Robin walks past her Canadian bar and goes in. After some serious drinking with Canada's national women's curling team, she blacks out and ends up in a Toronto hotel room.

Barney tracks her down and convinces her take the test. They stop at a Tim Hortons, where the cashier mistakes her for an American. Barney makes a speech ridiculing Canadians for letting such an amazing woman go and then is beat up. After some free Canadian health care, they return home and Robin decides she wants dual citizenship.

Ted hears that a pizzeria in Chicago, Gazola's, is closing down. He and Marshall used to drive straight from Wesleyan to the pizzeria while in college, even though the pizza was awful. The road trips cemented their friendship, and Ted proposes they take one last trip. Pumped to spend some personal time with Marshall, Ted is disappointed that Lily is coming along.

Lily needs bathroom breaks frequently and insists they listen to an audiobook parodying Marley & Me. Ted is annoyed when they stop at a bed and breakfast instead of driving through the night. After Lily and Marshall engage in some couples' activities, Ted tricks Marshall into driving with him to Gazola's in his bathrobe. They enjoy the pizza, but Marshall feels guilty over abandoning Lily, and they leave. Ted admits that he is angry that Lily tagged along, and the two stop speaking.

They drive back to the bed and breakfast not speaking to each other, but the audio-book story they are listening to makes them realize they need each other's friendship, and they reconcile. Lily hasn't even noticed that they're gone because she has been powerfully sedated by the hotel's spa services. After some severe stomach pains from the pizza, the three head back to New York.

Miles Gilbert "Tim" Horton (January 12, 1930 – February 21, 1974) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, a defenceman for 24 seasons in the National Hockey League. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres. On January 1, 2017, in a ceremony prior to the Centennial Classic, Horton was part of the first group of players to be named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. Also a successful businessman, Horton was a co-founder of the Tim Hortons restaurant chain.

Horton was born in Cochrane, Ontario, at Lady Minto Hospital, to Ethel May (née Irish) and Aaron Oakley Horton, a Canadian National Railway mechanic. Tim had one brother, Gerry Horton. He had English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry.

The family moved in 1935 to Duparquet, Quebec, returning to Ontario in 1938 to Cochrane; the family moved to Sudbury in 1945.

Horton grew up playing ice hockey in Cochrane, and later in mining country near Timmins. The Toronto Maple Leafs organization signed him; in 1948 he moved to Toronto to play junior hockey and attended St. Michael's College School.

Two years later, he turned pro with the Leafs' farm team, the Pittsburgh Hornets of the American Hockey League. He spent most of the first three seasons with Pittsburgh. Playing in his first NHL game on March 26, 1950, Horton did not appear in the NHL again until the fall of 1952. He remained a Leaf until 1970, winning four Stanley Cups. Horton later played for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. He was known for his tremendous strength and calmness under pressure. As a hard-working and durable defenceman, he gained relatively few penalty minutes for an enforcer-type defenceman. He was also an effective puck carrier – in 1964–65 he played right wing for the Leafs. Horton appeared in seven National Hockey League All-Star Games. He was named an NHL First Team All-Star three times: (1964, 1968, and 1969). He was selected to the NHL Second Team three times: (1954, 1963, 1967).

Ron Joyce

Ronald Vaughan "Ron" Joyce (born October 19, 1930) is a Canadian billionaire businessman. He co-founded the Tim Hortons doughnut chain as Tim Horton's partner and first franchisee.

Born and raised in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Joyce enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and specialized in communications. Joyce later moved to Hamilton, Ontario and joined the Hamilton Police force in 1956. He served as a police officer until 1965. He established a Dairy Queen franchise in Hamilton and got to know the hockey player Tim Horton by frequenting his doughnut shop while on foot patrol.

Joyce entered a franchise partnership with Horton in 1967, and Joyce reportedly wrote "You must be kidding!" in reference to the clause of the one-page franchise agreement requiring rent in advance. After Horton's death in an auto accident in 1974, Joyce purchased Horton's share for about $1 million and assumed control of the full Tim Horton franchise.

Joyce hired a management team and began to franchise the company throughout the late 1970s until the 1990s. During the early 1990s, Danny Murphy, a franchise owner of both Tim Hortons coffee shops and Wendy's fast food restaurants in Prince Edward Island wanted to combine both franchises under one roof in a new development in Montague. Murphy asked Joyce and Wendy's founder, Dave Thomas (1932–2002), to be present for the opening.

Joyce eventually sold his Wendy's stock and retired from management, but even in retirement continues to be active in his holding company, Jetport Inc, which has significant real estate, aviation, and commercial interests. He also serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Tim Horton Children's Foundation and sits on the Board of Directors of Sobeys and Shaw Communications.

Restaurant Brands International is a Canadian multinational fast food company. Formed in 2014 by the $12.5 billion merger between American fast food restaurant chain Burger King and the Canadian coffee shop and restaurant chain Tim Hortons, and expanded by the 2017 purchase of Louisiana based and themed Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, the company is the third-largest operator of fast food restaurants in the world. A Tim Hortons representative stated that the proposed merger would allow Tim Hortons to leverage Burger King's resources for international growth; the two chains would retain separate operations post-merger. News of the proposal caused Tim Hortons' shares to increase in value by 28 percent.

On August 25, 2014, Burger King officially confirmed its intent to acquire Tim Hortons Inc. in a deal totaling CDN$12.5 billion (US$11.4 billion). 3G Capital would purchase the company at $65.50 per-share, and existing shareholders would receive $65.50 in cash and 0.8025 shares in the new holding company: per-share—all-cash ($88.50) and all-shares (3.0879) options would also be available. Due to its iconic status in Canadian culture, Caira reassured the integrity of Tim Hortons following the purchase, stating that the acquisition would "enable us to move more quickly and efficiently to bring Tim Hortons' iconic Canadian brand to a new global customer base."

Tim Hortons 4 Ice Centre

The Superior Propane Centre, is a multi-purpose arena in Moncton, New Brunswick with four NHL sized ice surfaces, one of which (the Champions Arena) has seating for 1,500 spectators. It was home to the Moncton Beavers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League until 2007 when they moved to Dieppe and became the Dieppe Commandos. It is the home of the Moncton Mariposa Figure Skating Club, the Moncton Minor Hockey Association the Moncton Ringette Association and Lacrosse Moncton. The facility also contains a pro shop, full service restaurant, coffee shop and meeting facilities.

The Red Ball Internet Centre is part of the CN Sportplex, which also consists of 10 ballfields, six soccer fields and an indoor air supported multipurpose sports dome (The Dundee Sports Dome).
