Bing Boy

imageBing Boy

Bing Boy is an Australian chain of urban Asian street food restaurants, founded in Adelaide in 2011. The chain specialises in jianbing (also called Chinese crepes).

The first Bing Boy store was opened in Southern Cross Arcade at Rundle Mall, Adelaide, in June 2011. Founder Ming Ma modeled Bing Boy on the concept of fresh, fast delivery of jianbing that he says is common in China. At Bing Boy stores, bings made of traditional thin wheat omelette with various fillings, are made in full view of patrons.

The first Melbourne Bing Boy opened in November 2012.

In March 2016, two Melbourne franchised Bing Boy outlets—at Northland Shopping Centre and Myer in the CBD—were investigated by the Fair Work Ombudsman. The Ombudsman found that staff were being illegally paid at rates well below the minimum wage.

Boost Juice

imageBoost Juice Bars

Boost Juice Bars is an international chain of retail outlets that specialise in selling fruit juice. Boost Juice Bars was formed in 2000 with the first store located in Adelaide, South Australia. The company has expanded internationally with stores in Asia, Europe, Russia and the Middle East through franchising.

The founder of Boost Juice Bars, Janine Allis, noticed the fad of the juice bar when on holiday in the United States in 1999. With her husband, Janine Allis decided to bring the idea to Australia. In 2000, Allis opened her first Boost Juice Bar in King William Street, Adelaide while she was on maternity leave. At the end of 2004, Boost Juice had 175 stores operating across Australia and New Zealand.

In May 2006, Boost Juice Bars ceased operations in New Zealand after the franchiser (which operated all the New Zealand stores) was put into liquidation. The stores were sold to Tank Juice who are now operating them under the Tank brand.

In 2007, the founders of Millies Cookies, Richard O'Sullivan and Mario Budwig, signed an agreement with Boost Juice Bars to launch the brand in the United Kingdom. By the end of the year, the company had also expanded into Chile, Kuwait, Singapore, Indonesia and, most recently, Thailand.

In 2008, Nestlé launched a range of fruit smoothies in association with Boost Juice Bars, to operate alongside the company's expansion into the United Kingdom.

Between 2009 and 2012, a Boost store operated in China, but it was plagued by problems—the store opening was delayed, the shop-fit was average and the product was not as good as expected.

In 2010 Riverside Company bought a 65% stake in the Boost Investment Group, paying around $65 million for the share. That year, Boost Juice launched "Boost the way you feel" rebranding to mark its 10th anniversary. Allis also participated in the Channel Ten TV show Undercover Boss.

In 2011, Boost Juice signed a franchise agreement for India.

Bucking Bull

A bucking bull is a bull used in American rodeo bull riding competition. They are usually a Brahma crossed with another breed, weighing 1,500 pounds or more, selected for their tendency to "leap, plunge and spin" when a human is on its back. Circa mid-20th century breeders began selecting bulls for bad temperament, that would buck when ridden. Many of the best bucking bulls trace their lineage to bulls owned by Charlie Plummer of Oklahoma. These are known as Plummer bulls.

In some competitions between bulls, with a purse amounting to tens of thousands of dollars per event, the bulls are ridden by electronic dummies, not rodeo bull riders. Good performing bulls attain a celebrity status and can be considered a star athlete in their own right, and a valiant competitor on the field against the human rider.

The first sale of breeding cows out of champion bucking bulls was in 1999.

The percent of top professional riders staying on the bull for a full eight second "out" has dropped from 75% in the early 1990s to 35% circa 2014. This has led to criticism that the breeding has resulted in excessively aggressive and dangerous animals.

Notable bucking bulls include Bodacious, Bushwacker, Chicken on a Chain, Dillinger, Little Yellow Jacket and Skoal Pacific Bell. A bull named Panhandle Slim has had four clones, with identical bucking patterns, that qualified for the Professional Bull Riders World Finals.

Burger Theory

imageBurger Theory

Burger Theory is a chain of hamburger restaurants based in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded as a food truck in 2011, they expanded to operate three stores in the state.

Founded in 2011 by Dan Mendelson and Rob Dean as a food truck, the company is credited with bringing the food truck movement to South Australia. They started before the Adelaide City Council had legislation regarding food trucks in place, preventing the truck from working on city streets. However, a pilot program was created by the council later that year permitting Burger Theory to operate on a limited number of street sites in the central business district.

In 2012 Mendelson and Dean opened Pearl's Diner as their first bricks and mortar premises, before opening a dedicated Burger Theory store in Adelaide the following year. They subsequently opened outlets at Flinders University and the University of Adelaide. In late 2015 they opened a store in Melbourne, but this proved unsuccessful. Still looking to expand, in 2016 they signed a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese investor in which it was planned to open 120 franchises of Burger Theory in China.

In 2017 they announced that they would no longer sell chicken and bacon at their store, and their existing beef burgers would be a combination of beef fat and kangaroo meat.

Chicken Treat

imageChicken Treat

Chicken Treat is an Australian barbecue chicken fast food restaurant chain.

Chicken Treat has over 60 outlets within Western Australia, and two in Central Queensland. The company provides a range of rotisserie chicken, fried chicken and burger meals. Chicken Treat also offers catering services for families, groups and businesses.

The chain originated in 1976 in Perth, Western Australia and later expanded throughout Australia.

In 1989 Chicken Treat and its main east coast rival, Big Rooster, became allies as Australian Fast Foods Pty Limited. In early 2002, the parent company Australian Fast Foods purchased Red Rooster from Coles Myer. This was followed by a period of rebranding, changing existing stores outside of Western Australia from Chicken Treat to the more established Red Rooster brand, although there are a few areas where Red Rooster and Chicken Treat co-exist.

In April 2007 Red Rooster and Chicken Treat were sold by Australian Fast Foods for A$180 million to a consortium formed by the management and the venture capital arm of Westpac known as Quadrant Capital

In Early 2011 QSR Holdings acquired the Western Australian Chooks brand (formerly known as River Rooster), converting said stores into direct-service outlets with no drive-thru service. These stores all carry the newer Chicken Treat branding.

In June 2011 Archer Capital acquired Quick Service Restaurant Holdings (QSR) from Quadrant Private Equity for an estimated $450 million (including Red Rooster and Oporto).

In October 2015 the chain began using "Betty the Chicken" to run the company's Twitter account in an attempt to secure an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. The company now has over 8,000 followers as a result.

Eagle Boys is an Australian fast food chain specialising in Italian-American cuisine, in particular pizza. The chain was acquired by Pizza Hut in November 2016 and the brand is expected to be wound-down by mid-2017.

Eagle Boys was founded in Albury, New South Wales by businessman Tom Potter in 1987. Since 1992, Eagle Boys national headquarters have been located in Annerley, Queensland. In November 2016, Pizza Hut announced to media that it had merged with Eagle Boys. As at that date, 114 Eagle Boys stores operated throughout Australia; making it the fourth largest pizza chain in the country, with less than 10% share of the country's pizza market.
