York Charter Township is a charter township of Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,708 at the 2010 census.
Federal Correctional Institution, Milan and the Toyota Technical Center are located in the township. The township was the home of the Saline Valley Farm, a 1930s experimental cooperative.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.9 square miles (90.3 km2), of which 34.7 square miles (89.9 km2) is land and 0.15 square miles (0.4 km2), or 0.47%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 7,392 people, 1,901 households, and 1,608 families residing in the township. The population density was 210.2 per square mile (81.2/km²). There were 1,936 housing units at an average density of 55.1 per square mile (21.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 83.75% White, 12.72% African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.84% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.06% of the population.
There were 1,901 households out of which 42.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.1% were married couples living together, 4.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.4% were non-families. 11.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.97 and the average family size was 3.23.
