Major General Yogesh Kumar Joshi, AVSM, SM, VrC,was the commanding officer of the 13th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles during the Kargil War. For his part in the Operation Vijay, he was awarded the Vir Chakra. He was also the commanding officer of Captain Vikram Batra and Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, both of whom were awarded the Param Vir Chakra. Since Kargil, he has also been awarded the Sena Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. He has also served as the head of an Indian Armed Forces delegation to strengthen ties with China and hold direct talks with the PLA and was the Indian Army officer in charge of China-related and border issues.
