Yancy Bailey Spencer III (July 2, 1950 – February 14, 2011) was a surfer from Pensacola, Florida who was widely regarded as the father of Gulf Coast surfing.
Son of Yancy Bailey Spencer, Jr. (1929 - 2010), PFC in World War II, and wife Patricia Lee, who married for a third time on April 9, 1988 Helen Delabar Martison (Van Lear, Kentucky, December 18, 1939). Grandson of Yancy Bailey Spencer (North Carolina, 1890 - ?) and wife Georgia "Georgie" C. Smith (1898 - ?), who had three children.
He married for a second time on (?) wife Lydia Ann Brown and had three children, including the actor Abigail Spencer.
Yancy died while surfing at County Line, California, on February 14, 2011. The cause of death was thought to be due to a major heart attack.
A statue of him was erected on Pensacola Beach, Florida.
