According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.87 square miles (7.43 km2), all land.
Among the earliest settlers in what is now Wyoming was the Pendery family who came in 1805.
Wyoming was named after Wyoming County, Pennsylvania.
Wyoming has a renowned education program – the Wyoming City School District was ranked first in the state of Ohio on the 2004–2005 State Report Card, with an index score of 108.2. This includes Wyoming High School, a top-ranked public high school. There are three elementary schools (Vermont, Hilltop, and Elm), one middle school and one high school.
Wyoming is served by a branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
As of the census of 2010, there were 8,428 people, 3,105 households, and 2,385 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,936.6 inhabitants per square mile (1,133.8/km2). There were 3,272 housing units at an average density of 1,140.1 per square mile (440.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 83.6% White, 11.3% African American, 0.1% Native American, 2.1% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
