Winnebago County is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,866. The county seat is Forest City. The county was founded in 1847 and named after the Native American tribe. It is the location of the motor homes manufacturer Winnebago Industries.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 402 square miles (1,040 km2), of which 400 square miles (1,000 km2) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) (0.3%) is water. It is Iowa's fifth-smallest county by land area and second-smallest by total area.
The 2010 census recorded a population of 10,866 in the county, with a population density of 27.1331/sq mi (10.4762/km2). There were 5,194 housing units, of which 4,597 were occupied.
As of the census of 2000, there were 11,723 people, 4,749 households, and 3,181 families residing in the county. The population density was 29 people per square mile (11/km²). There were 5,065 housing units at an average density of 13 per square mile (5/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.37% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.01% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 2.02% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
