Winn is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States, on the east bank of the Penobscot River. The town was named for John M. Winn, an early landholder. The population was 407 at the 2010 census.
Henry Poor & Son, a large leather firm in Boston, owned a tannery in Winn which burned in 1892, bankrupting the company.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.84 square miles (113.55 km2), of which, 43.70 square miles (113.18 km2) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 407 people, 175 households, and 122 families residing in the town. The population density was 9.3 inhabitants per square mile (3.6/km2). There were 210 housing units at an average density of 4.8 per square mile (1.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.3% White, 0.2% African American, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.2% of the population.
There were 175 households of which 26.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 30.3% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.67.
The median age in the town was 46.4 years. 19.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.8% were from 25 to 44; 32% were from 45 to 64; and 19.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.6% male and 49.4% female.
