The Windsor Lancers are the varsity athletic teams that represent the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The school joined what was then the Ontario-Quebec Athletic Association in 1952 and have fielded teams in what is now known as the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) ever since.
The Lancers compete in the OUA as part of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), and, as of the 2015–16 season, have won 33 national titles and 87 OUA titles. In the last 5 years the Lancers have won more national championships than any other Canadian university.
On the fields, the Windsor Lancers participate in the following varsity sports:
Lancers women's hockey goalie during 2013-14 season
Lancers women's hockey player during 2013-14 season
The Windsor Lancers football team began competing in the Central Canada Intercollegiate Football Conference in 1968, and have continued play uninterrupted since then. The team plays on Alumni Field out of University of Windsor Stadium located on the campus grounds at the University of Windsor. The program is notable for featuring three Hec Crighton Trophy winners, most recently being former Canadian Football League running back, Daryl Stephenson, when he won the award in 2006. The Hec Crighton Trophy was also claimed by Andrew Parici in 1972, becoming just the second quarterback to win the award, and Scott Mallender, also at quarterback, in 1979. The football team itself has won a CCIFC championship in 1968 and a Yates Cup championship in 1975.
Currently, the football team is led by head coach Joe D'Amore. D'Amore was named the OUA Football Coach of the Year in 2011 and led the football program to 4 straight OUA playoff appearances in his first four seasons. Quarterback Austin Kennedy (2010–14) had an outstanding career for the Lancers as he was a three-time OUA conference all-star, was the OUA career record holder with 79 touchdown passes and became the fourth quarterback in CIS history to pass for more than 10,000 yards. He was also selected as one of the CIS Top Eight Academic All-Canadians for the 2014–15 season. Following four straight years in the playoffs, the Lancers missed the post-season in 2015 and 2016.
