William John Cox (July 12, 1904 - June 3, 1996) was an American athlete who competed mainly in the distance events.
He was educated at the Rochester Shop School, Mercersburg Academy, and Pennsylvania State University. In later years he would return to Rochester Shop School (then known as Edison Technical School) and teach mathematics for 36 years. At Mercersburg he was trained by Scots American coach Jimmy Curran.
He competed for the United States in the 1924 Summer Olympics held in Paris, France in the 3000 metre team where he won the bronze medal with his team mates Edward Kirby and Willard Tibbetts.
