West Mountain is a ski area located in Queensbury, New York, just outside the Adirondack Park on West Mountain Road (CR58). West Mountain contains 25 trails ranging in difficulty from easy green trails to more advanced black diamond trails and some glades. There is also a tubing park near the base of the mountain, containing four 700 foot chutes and two 1000 foot chutes. The main lodge contains a cafeteria on the first floor and a full service restaurant and bar on the second floor now called the "East Slope Bar & Eatery". After a $400,000 renovation in 2008, the restaurant started opening year-round for weddings and special events.
Recently as of 2013 West Mountain is under new management, Apex Capital LLC. In December 2013, the team revamped the Main Lodge, finished a complete remodel of the restrooms, and focused trail maintenance, cutting back of trails and grading, that had been bypassed for years was completed. In August 2014, over 4,000 feet of 10” epoxy coated steel snowmaking pipeline was installed. In addition, they purchased a new Kässbohrer PistenBully groomer in December 2014.
As of 2015 West Mountain installed a used 1985 Poma "Alpha" type Triple Chair lift, purchased from the Hermitage Club in West Dover, VT, to replace the late 1950s Riblet double chair from Kobl mountain (Closed) in Lake Placid. The double was installed in 1961 and received upgrades from Bromley's Stargazer lift in the 1990s. Along with the new lift installation West Mountain has expanded trails adding the Gnar Wall. Installed new LED lighting on the mountain and added snowmaking and lights on the Holy Mackerel and the new Gnar Wall trail. A second triple chair to replace the 1973 Northwest chair built by Thiokol is planned to be installed for the 2016-17 season as well. It will use extra towers and chairs that were left over from the lift purchased from Hermitage Club, since it was twice as long as what was needed. The new Northwest triple chair uses terminals, also of the Poma "Alpha" type, that were purchased used from Sugarbush, VT
West Mountain is often opened until mid-March, made possible by man-made snow produced during the cold winter months, like many other east coast ski areas. West Mountain is also known for its night skiing, which is available on the majority of the main trails.
