Wausa is located at 42°29′52″N 97°32′24″W / 42.49778°N 97.54000°W / 42.49778; -97.54000 (42.497806, -97.539866).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.53 square miles (1.37 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 634 people, 257 households, and 172 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,196.2 inhabitants per square mile (461.9/km2). There were 290 housing units at an average density of 547.2 per square mile (211.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.6% White, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.6% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.

There were 257 households of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 1.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 33.1% were non-families. 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
