The Vice President and Prime Minister is the Head of Government of the United Arab Emirates. So far, all but the first Prime Minister has also served as Vice-President of the country. While not required by the UAE constitution, historically the ruler or the deputy ruler of Dubai has served as the Prime Minister. The current Prime Minister is Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. He became Prime Minister on 11 February 2006, after his older brother Maktoum bin Rashid al-Maktoum died on a visit to the Gold Coast of Australia.
The UAE's Prime Minister chairs the Council of Ministers, which meets once a week in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
