Varushamellam Vasantham is a 2002 Tamil language film directed by Ravi Shankar and produced by R. B. Choudary. The film featured the Manoj, Kunal and Anita Hassanandani in the lead roles, while M. N. Nambiar plays a supporting role. The film, which had music composed by Sirpi, opened in May 2002. The film was remade in Telugu as Manchivaadu.
Raja (Manoj Bharathiraja) is a lazy, irresponsible and young lad, whereas Ramesh (Kunal) is a highly talented and educated lad who earns very much. Obviously, the grandfather of both is M. N. Nambiar who a retired collector of the area, hates Raja and loves and takes care of Ramesh. He every day goes to temple and prays for his grandson Ramesh only and also he talks nasty about Raja and always pride of his grandson Ramesh.
One day Raja's relation Latha (Anita Hassanandani Reddy) comes to their home with their family for visit. Seeing her, Raja falls in love with her in first meeting. Also the nature and courtesy of Latha, makes Raja thirst of love on her. Meanwhile Ramesh also has love on who challenges with his own brother Raja.
Raja, accepting the challenge, tries in several ways to impress Latha. First on advice from his friend Mayilswamy, he goes to the current collector and asks him to make him as a collector. Without education, the collector who was in respect of the previous collector M.N.Nambiar simply warns and sends him back. So they try the next step to learn English, the English teacher break downs and forget her English in vain to educate English to him.
In between, Ramesh indulges and does some nasty tricks on Raja, to make Latha inconvenient with Raja. Ramesh lies Raja that Latha likes sapota very much. Without knowing Latha hates sapota, Raja brings a basket full of sapota before Latha, and Latha get allergic and gets angry with Raja.
All the things done by Raja, irritates M.N.Nambiar very much and he scolds Raja for this. But Raja least cares about that and he continues his efforts.
