Vale Tudo Japan (VTJ) is an annual mixed martial arts competition held in Japan. Arranged by promotor Satoru Sayama, it ran from 1994 to 1999 with four reunion events in 2009, 2012, 2013 and as of recent, 2016. A pair of tournaments were held in 1994 and '95, both of which were won by Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Rickson Gracie. In 2013 and 2016, the competitions were held in an underground subway in Japan that was recently broken down so to cut down on costs. The current winner as of December 21, 2016 is David Hudson of the United States. The most recent tournament had a total of 2048 participants, with martial art styles ranging from Karate, Jeet Kun Do, Kung Fu and Tai-chi (the martial art used by the current winner David Hudson) to armed with batons, staffs, nunchucks and tonfa.
