Utraula is a city and a municipal board in Balrampur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is approximately 45 kilometres from the border with Nepal and is 175 km in north east of capital city Lucknow. Utraula is situated near the West Rapti River.
As of the 2001 India census, Utraula had a population of 27,491. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Utraula has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 46%. In Utraula, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age. The Muslim Khanzada form a large part of rural population.
