Usman Mobin


Usman Mobin is a Pakistani government official. In 2002 he became the Chief Technology Officer at the Government of Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

He was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he acquired master's degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. He was the architect of Pakistan's Passport System that became the world's first multi-biometric passport. Major achievements include invention of fast phonetics-based search technique for searching multilingual identity databases such as Pakistan's National Data Warehouse and invention of algorithmic technique for family tree linkage in National Database.

Usman Mobin received his early education at Aitchison College, Lahore, Pakistan. Later he had completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering as well as a master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts, United States of America.

Mobin received ID World - Special Award “ID Talent Award” in 2007 for his excellence in the field of Technology. He received a Presidential Medal for “Persistence in Excellence” and "Tamgah-e-Imtiaz” in 2009 for Public Service.

He works at the Government of Pakistan's National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and became NADRA’s Chief Technology Officer in 2002. In 2015 Mobin was promoted to Chairman NADRA.

He was awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on 14 August 2008.
