The 2018 United States Senate election in Missouri will take place on November 6, 2018, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Missouri, concurrently with other elections to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections.
Incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill is running for re-election to a third term.
Located at the crossroads of the Midwest, the South, and the Great Plains, Missouri was long a swing state with a compelling record of predicting the presidential winner. However, with Barack Obama's razor thin defeat in 2008, the state began a rightward trek. In 2016, President Donald Trump won it by almost 20 points.
Incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill is running for reelection, but is seen by many pundits as a vulnerable incumbent, as only 46% of her constituents approve of the job she is doing in the United States Senate. McCaskill's unpopularity and the Show Me State's reddening landscape have given Republicans cautious optimism, despite McCaskill's double digit victory in 2012. Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is seen as a favorite to unseat her by many GOP donors.
