The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is a United Nations advanced mission in Libya, in the aftermath of the Libyan Civil War. UNSMIL is not a military mission, but a political one led by the Department of Political Affairs. It aims to help the National Transitional Council rebuild the State of Law and other institutions.
UNSCR 2009 (2011) said:
Ian Martin was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UNSMIL from 11 September 2011 until 17 October 2012 when he was succeeded by Tarek Mitri. On 14 August 2014, Tarek Mitri was succeeded by Bernardino León.
