Uchu Sentai Kyuranger (宇宙戦隊キュウレンジャー Uchū Sentai Kyūrenjā?) is a Japanese tokusatsu television series and the 41st and current entry of Toei's long-running Super Sentai series, following Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger. The show premiered on February 12, 2017, joining Kamen Rider Ex-Aid in the Super Hero Time line-up on TV Asahi affiliate stations. Kyuranger's main motif is constellations and it is the first sentai series that introduced nine regular members right at the beginning, more than any of the previous installments which have typically started with five or less.
The series' main characters made their first official appearance as a cameo in the film Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger the Movie: Super Sentai's Message from the Future.
In the year 20XX, the Jark Matter organization started their campaign to conquer space, invading incountable planets across the cosmos, Earth included. In response, an insurgent force called "Rebellion" is established and gathers nine alien warriors from across the galaxy who are chosen by the Kyutama, magical stones with the power of the constellations, to become the Kyurangers. Once the team is assembled, the Kyurangers decide to start their campaign against Jark Matter by liberating Earth, as they are suspicious of why the planet is heavily guarded by their forces. As the fight escalate, the team gains the addition of their commander Xiao Lonpo, and a young boy from Earth called Kotaro Sakuma, who gain their own Kyutamas and join the fight to save the galaxy.
The Kyurangers made their debut appearance in Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger the Movie: Super Sentai's Message from the Future, released in Japanese theaters on January 14, 2017.
