He is from West Indian roots and is first-generation American. Hodges started acting at the age of 11, first in theater, and then in television and film. At 16, Ty had dreams of going to Hollywood to follow his dreams. His parents supported him on this journey and gave him a month to book a job. A week before he had to return to Miami, Florida, he landed the starring role in Janet Jackson’s video Go Deep and from there became a Disney actor for five years, most notably in the roles of Larry Beale in the Emmy-nominated Even Stevens and Larry Houdini in Don’t Look Under The Bed. Later roles include The Young Little Richard Story, and parts in Boston Public, Felicity, The District and NYPD Blue. He was in Oprah Winfrey’s David and Lisa alongside Sidney Poitier, and was in The Challenge with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Material Girls with Hilary and Haylie Duff and numerous other movies.

In 2006, Hodges added writing and directing to his repertoire, with his award-winning feature film Miles from Home, which garnered film festival awards for writing, directing and for his performance in the lead role. He has written and directed five features since then: You, Me & the Circus, for Omar Epps’ production company Brooklyn Works Films; Video Girl, starring Meagan Good and Ruby Dee, which premiered on BET to one million viewers and was an AMC limited release; Charlie, Trevor and a Girl Savannah coming to theatres summer 2015; and A Girl Like Grace, which stars Meagan Good, Garcelle Beauvais, Raven-Symone, Romeo Miller, Paige Hurd and introduces Ryan Destiny.

Hodges is currently developing projects for his production company, Art Farm Entertainment, creating and focusing on television and film projects geared towards the millennial generation.
