Thomas R. "Tom" Paradise is a university distinguished professor of geography, geosciences, and cartography in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He is particularly known for his research since 1990 on the archaeological site of Petra. He is also a certified gemologist in both the US (via the Gemological Institute of America) and the UK (via the Gemmological Association of Great Britain).

Paradise was one of the lead researchers for the The PBS special presentation PETRA: Lost City of Stone. Paradise has been studying Petra and its archaeology/ geomorphology since the early 1980s.
