Toledo Lucas County Public Library is a public library system located in Toledo, Ohio. It has the fourth largest collection in the state.
Dating back to 1838, the library was Ohio's first public library founded using tax money. The Toledo Public Main Library at 325 North Michigan Street officially opened on September 5, 1940. The current system was created in 1970 when the Toledo Public, Lucas County, and Sylvania Public libraries merged. In 2001, the Main Library had a major expansion and restoration, which added 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) to an Art Deco facility.
Toledo Lucas County Public Library is Ohio's fourth largest public library collection, because the main library holds 1.2 million reference materials, including books, DVDs, and CDs. It also contains photographs, genealogical resource materials, periodicals, family histories, obituaries, court records, and archives from the Toledo Blade.
TLCPL serves all of Lucas County, which has a population of roughly 432,488. Customers can make use of the discussion groups, meeting rooms, and/or 400 free internet-ready computers.
