Todd Smith Blackadder (born 20 September 1971 in Rangiora) is a former professional New Zealand rugby union player and professional rugby coach. He served as Director of Rugby for the Tasman Rugby Union before being appointed to succeed Robbie Deans as coach of Super Rugby team the Crusaders. His nickname is "Toddy".
He played for the All Blacks 25 times, including 14 as captain. He also played for the Crusaders at lock. Among his achievements as a player were captaincy of the New Zealand All Blacks, the Crusaders Super 12 team, and the Canterbury provincial team. He also played 9 games for Nelson Bays in 1990. He then continued to play professionally, in Scotland as the captain of the Edinburgh Gunners. First played for Woodend, near Rangiora which kicked off his Rugby Union career. He also played 7's for New Zealand in the inaugural world cup held at Murrayfield.
Blackadder was appointed Director of Rugby at Bath Rugby ahead of the 2016/17 English Premiership rugby season together with fellow Crusaders coach Tabai Matson who has been appointed Head Coach.
He was the first assistant forwards coach of Scotland's first foreign head coach Matt Williams, and became the forwards coach of the Edinburgh Gunners under Frank Hadden. He now serves as the Director of Rugby for the Tasman Rugby Union in the National Provincial Championship. He was also part of the coaching team for the Crusaders. In October 2007 he was appointed coach of the Tasman Makos for the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup. Blackadder was appointed to become coach of the Crusaders on 23 July 2008.
