Tjapko Poppens

Tjapko Poppens (born July 31 1970) is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). He has been mayor of Wijk bij Duurstede since late 2012. He grew up in the province of Groningen and graduated in Economics of Agriculture and Environment at the Wageningen University with a major in business and administration. In 2005 he became a councilor in Deventer and from 2007 he was VVD leader. Additionally Poppens was a corporate staff director in the municipality of Enschede. Tjapko Poppens is married and is the father of three children.
