Theresa is a village located in the Town of Theresa in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 863 at the 2010 census. The Village of Theresa is northeast of Watertown.
The village was planned as early as 1818 at the high falls on the Indian River. The first business at this location was started in 1820, and a post office was established there in 1822.
Theresa was incorporated as a village in 1871.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km²), of which, 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (3.79%) is water.
The Indian River flows southward through the village.
The village is located on New York State Route 26 (La Fargeville Road, Mill Street) and on County Roads 21, 46, 193, and 194.
As of the census of 2000, there were 812 people, 308 households, and 211 families residing in the village. The population density was 642.4 people per square mile (248.8/km²). There were 358 housing units at an average density of 283.2 per square mile (109.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.44% White, 2.34% Black or African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.62% Asian, and 1.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.86% of the population.
