"The Moon" was the Romanian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, performed in English by Taxi. This was the first Romanian entry not to feature any lyrics in Romanian.
The song is a ballad which gains in tempo as it develops. Lead singer Dan Teodorescu addresses his lover, telling her that she has been able to look into his soul and find the humanity within it. He sings that as a result, "the wind is playing with the stars of my night" and "the moon is playing on and on and on with my heart". Musically, the song is accentuated by pan pipes, played by Georgiana Pană.
The song was performed sixth on the night (following France's Sofia Mestari with "On aura le ciel" and preceding Malta's Claudette Pace with "Desire"). At the close of voting, it had received 25 points, placing 17th in a field of 24, Romania's best result at the time.
The result was not, however, good enough to qualify Romania for the 2001 Contest. As a "passive participant" (a country broadcasting but not entering that year's Contest), Romania was re-admitted the following year. Thus, the song was succeeded as Romanian representative at the 2002 Contest by Monica Anghel & Marcel Pavel with "Tell Me Why".
