The band's first full-length album, Can't Stop Won't Stop was released July 8, 2008. Their holiday release ...And a Happy New Year was released in December 2008. The Maine released their second full-length album, Black & White, on July 13, 2010, selling 22,634 copies in its first week. On December 6, 2011, the group's third album, Pioneer, was released and it peaked at No. 90 on the Billboard 200. Their fourth full-length record Forever Halloween was released on June 4, 2013 reaching No. 39 on the Billboard 200 by selling over 10,000 copies in its first week. Bassist Garrett Nickelsen and friend and drummer Patrick Kirch, met in November 2006, and they started talking about making a band. Singer John O'Callaghan joined soon after auditions for the band with no prior vocal experience, along with guitarists Jared Monaco, and Ryan Osterman with that lineup forming the band in January 2007. Together, they released the EP Stay Up, Get Down. Months later Osterman left the band and was replaced by Kennedy Brock. The Maine signed to Fearless Records and on December 11, 2007, they debuted with a five-song EP entitled The Way We Talk, produced by Matt Grabe.

The Maine's first full-length album, Can't Stop Won't Stop, was produced by Matt Squire and was released in the summer of 2008, just before the band toured with Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls. In the fall of 2008, The Maine and We the Kings supported The Academy Is... on its tour in the United Kingdom.
