The Film Review (formerly Film 24) is a 10-minute film related programme shown on BBC News each Friday evening at 5.45pm. It reviews three new films each week.
The programme's expert film critic is Mark Kermode, though others do stand in. The programme is part of the BBC News at Five, which airs just before the Film Review. The presenter for several years was normally Gavin Esler. Esler left the BBC in March 2017 but ceased presenting the Film Review several weeks beforehand. He returned to present his last BBC News at Five, including the Film Review, on 31 March 2017. The normal presenter is now Jane Hill with cover presenters Ben Brown/Simon McCoy though potentially any presenter could be on duty to present the BBC News at Five strand beforehand and could present the programme. Cover presenters in the past have included Julian Worricker, Christian Fraser and Simon McCoy. The programme is usually repeated several times over the weekend.
The programme was renamed The Film Review on 22 March 2013, following BBC News 24's rebrand to BBC News and move to Broadcasting House.
