theScore Inc. is a Canadian-based digital media company that owns and operates mobile sports platforms ‘theScore,’ and ‘theScore esports,’. Its head office is located in Toronto, which includes the company’s in-house software engineering team, editorial content team, sales team, marketing and administrative staff. It also has an office in New York. As of Q4 F2016, theScore's mobile applications were used by 4.0 million average monthly active users. The company is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (SCR).

The company previously owned The Score Television Network, which was acquired by Rogers Communications in October 2012. The channel was rebranded as Sportsnet 360. The transaction did not include theScore's digital media assets, including its mobile apps and websites.

The digital company was spun-out from Score Media immediately prior to Rogers's acquisition of Score Media. As a result of the transaction, former shareholders of Score Media received one share of the new company for each share held in Score Media, meaning that Score Media founder John Levy (together with his family) is the largest single voting shareholder in the company, as was the case with Score Media, though Rogers received additional shares yielding an ownership stake of 11.8%. Rogers subsequently sold all of its shares in theScore in June 2014.

theScore operates mobile sports applications, websites and chatbots, which deliver sports news, scores and stats across all major leagues and competitions. Its core revenue generating business is that of its mobile applications, which were used by 4.3 million monthly active users as of Q3 F2016. These include flagship mobile application theScore and website theScore.com, mobile application theScore esports and website thescoreesports.com and chatbot services for Facebook Messenger and Kik Messenger.

In a conference call for company’s Q3 F2016 earnings, management described its flagship app ‘theScore’ as “the leading challenger to ESPN on mobile.” Available on iOS. and Androidmobile operating system, its App Store description says it provides “real-time scoring updates and the most comprehensive live stats and breaking news from across all major leagues and competitions.”
