The resident director is Tom Diamond, a Canadian opera director who also works for the Canadian Opera Company and was a judge/host on the Bravo! Television program Bathroom Divas. In January 2014, Michael Mori was announced as Tapestry's new Artistic Director.
Tapestry Opera was founded in 1979 as a madrigal ensemble The Tapestry Singers. In 1986 it renamed Tapestry Music Theatre to reflect changes in the company's direction. The company was re-branded as Tapestry New Opera Works in 1999 to reflect its dedication to the creation of contemporary opera, but now operates as Tapestry Opera.
