Tal is a town and a nagar parishad in Ratlam District of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh."TAL" is a tehsil place and a small town; it is a tahsil of Ratlam district and situated near Chambal river. Before Indian independence, Tal was part of the princely state of Jaora, ruled by the jaora "NAVAB "

The name of the town is derived from the Malvi word Talav that means pond. The town is popularly believed to be built by reclaiming land from a large pond.Tal was part of the princely state of Jaora, ruled by the Dodiya chief.The princely state was ruled by the Dodia clan which holds the title "Rawat". Before independence the rule was under Rawat Shri Shambhu Singh ji(Tal).Rawat Shri Shambhu Singh ji had five son namely Late Kr Yogendra Singh, Late Kr Kamal Singh, Late Kr Shiv Raj Singh, Late Kr Vikram Singh and Late Kr Kishor Singh.Late vikram singh ji dodiya had 8 sons and 2 daughters normely kr Rajandra singh, kr Satya pal singh, kr Natwar singh,, kr Hamandra singh, late kr Balveer singh, kr Inder pal singh, kr Jag pal singh, kr Shiv pal singh and daughter's name Parmila kunwar, Bhagwati kunwar
