Taiton or Tait or York was an unincorporated area in northwest Wharton County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The one-time community was located 5 miles (8.0 km) north of New Taiton on State Highway 71 (SH 71). Taiton's population peaked around 1910 but then went into decline. At some time, Taiton either moved south to New Taiton or was replaced by that community. Unlike New Taiton, Taiton is not identified by road signs, not shown on maps and not served by any Farm-to-market road. The additional fact that there are very few homes in the area suggests that Taiton has become a ghost town.

The historic location of Taiton was at 29°22′28″N 96°22′40″W / 29.37444°N 96.37778°W / 29.37444; -96.37778. This coordinate is on SH 71 a distance of 14.0 miles (22.5 km) north-northwest of El Campo and 5.4 miles (8.7 km) south-southeast of Garwood. The precise location is on SH 71 between County Road 476 on the south and County Road 369. The Colorado County line is not far to the north. County Road 476 leaves SH 71 at right angles and heads east-northeast. County Road 369 continues the same direction to the north-northwest while SH 71 diverges slightly more to the north; the two roads intersect at a very acute angle. The Taiton Community Center can be found at the southeast corner of SH 71 and FM 961 in New Taiton.Saint John Nepomucene Catholic Church and cemetery are a short distance east of the community center on FM 961. Tait and York were alternate names for Taiton.
