Taché, Manitoba


Incorporated in 1880, Taché is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada. Named after the Bishop Taché (one of the first bishops in Manitoba), it is located to the south-east of Winnipeg, stretching from the Red River Floodway in the west to the beginning of the Canadian Shield in the east. Trees line the Seine River as it meanders through the centre of the municipality and acts as an oasis of old Oak and Elm trees in the primarily agricultural fields of the area. Lorette and Landmark are the main residential and commercial hubs of the municipality with Ste. Genevieve, Dufresne, Ross and Linden as other noteworthy communities.

In 1998 a new high school, Collège Lorette Collegiate, was completed in the town of Lorette. The town now serves not only as the location of the municipal office, but also as site of the Seine River School Division board offices.

According to the 2011 Census, Taché was home to 10,284 people, which was a 13.2% increase from the prior census in 2006. The land area of Taché is 581.52 kilometers squared, making the population density 17.7 people per square kilometer. There are 3,358 private dwellings in the Rural Municipality, 3,285 which are occupied (97.8% occupancy rate). The median worth of a dwelling is $258,918 in Taché, a bit lower than the national median at $280,552. The average household has 3.1 people and the average family has 1.4 children. The median (after-tax) household income in the area is $71,053, quite higher than the national rate at $54,089. The median age of Taché is 34.3, significantly younger than then national median at 40.6 years old, and the provincial median at 38.4 years old.

The census also reports that 69.6% of the residents mother tongue was English, followed by; French (15.8%) and German (9.0%).
