Suspiria is an upcoming horror film directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by David Kajganich. It is a remake of the 1977 film Suspiria, and stars Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, and Tilda Swinton.Jessica Harper, lead star of the original film, will also appear.
A remake of Suspiria (1977) was originally announced in 2008 by director David Gordon Green, who co-wrote the script with his sound designer. Green cast Isabelle Huppert and Janet McTeer in the project, as well as Isabelle Fuhrman. However, according to Green, conflicts with the studio financing the production resulted in the film being scrapped.
In 2016, it was revealed that a new production was slated with director Luca Guadagnino attached to the project. It was also revealed that Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton had been cast in the lead roles, with Chloë Grace Moretz and Mia Goth being cast in supporting parts. The new screenplay was written by David Kajganich, who also wrote Guadagnino's film A Bigger Splash (2015) and the AMC series The Terror.
The film began shooting in Italy in October 2016, with actresses Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Mia Goth being seen while filming in Varese.
The main location in Varese is the 'Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori' which is supposed to be the Dance Academy (central point of the original movie). Another confirmed location, also in Varese, is Palazzo Estense and its famous gardens.
