Sullia (also known as Sulya) (Kannada: ಸುಳ್ಯ) is a taluk in the Dakshina Kannada district of the state of Karnataka, India.
An historical revolution took place during 1837 when a majority of the Kodagu Gowdas, Kodavas, Tuluvas, Kudiyas, Adidravidas, and other castes from Amara Sullia, Madikeri and Bhagamandala went and fought for freedom against British.
CITY TOURISM Sullia is one of the pilgrimage places. The area covered by the TP is 4233-37 acres 6.61 Sq.Km. Sullia towns is situated to the east of the Mangalore on the NH-275 & SH85 at a distance of above 86 K.M. from Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada. The town lies on the both side of the SH-88. The total population is 18,028.It has 18 wards Kukke Subrahmanya is a famous Hindu temple located in the small, rural village of Subrahmanya in the Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka. The main tourist spots are Sri Chenna Keshava Temple, Sri Kayarthodi Temple.
Main attractions Ø Sullia has suspension bridges (locally known as hanging bridges) helping local pedestrians to cross the Payaswini river. These bridges also attract a lot of tourists. Ø Payaswini and Kumaradhara are the two major rivers of Sullia. Ø Kumara Parvata mountain is one of the famous trekking paradises situated near Sri Kukke Subrahmanya Temple. Ø “Koli Kamale" is a famous trekking place in peraje, Kodagu district (7 km from sullia) Ø Abbey Falls is 10 kilometres from Madikeri (50 kilometres from Sullia). Ø Sri Kukke Subramanya Temple, situated in Subramanya (village), around 44 kilometres from Sullia, is a famous pilgrimage location. Ø Sri Mallikarjuna Temple, situated in Thodikana, around 15 km from Sullia, is a famous pilgrimage location and also a famous tourist destination.
