Sterling is a village in Johnson County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 476 at the 2010 census.
Sterling was platted in 1870 when the Atchison and Nebraska Railroad was extended to that point. The village was named after Sterling, Illinois.
Sterling is located at 40°27′43″N 96°22′42″W / 40.46194°N 96.37833°W (40.461893, -96.378355).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.41 square miles (1.06 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 476 people, 206 households, and 126 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,161.0 inhabitants per square mile (448.3/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 558.5 per square mile (215.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 99.8% White and 0.2% from other races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 206 households of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 1.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.8% were non-families. 32.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 18% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
