Stanhope is a city in Hamilton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 422 at the 2010 census.

Stanhope was laid out in 1883. It was named for Lady Hester Stanhope, a British traveler and author. Another theory for the origin of the name is that it was named after an official from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. The city was incorporated on December 14, 1897.

Stanhope is located at 42°17′22″N 93°47′43″W / 42.28944°N 93.79528°W / 42.28944; -93.79528 (42.289505, -93.795283).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.97 square miles (2.51 km2), all of it land.
