Saint Stephen is part of the Saint Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area.
St. Stephen was incorporated in 1914.

Main routes include Stearns County Roads 2 and 5. Stearns County Roads 1 and 17 are both nearby.
As of the census of 2010, there were 851 people, 305 households, and 234 families residing in the city. The population density was 231.3 inhabitants per square mile (89.3/km2). There were 316 housing units at an average density of 85.9 per square mile (33.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.1% White, 0.1% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 305 households of which 42.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 23.3% were non-families. 17.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
