The Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust was established in 1993 by actor, film producer, Padma Shri recipient and former Rajya Sabha member Mohan Babu. The college is 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, India.
During the 1960s Babu inherited a love for learning from his father, Narayana Swamy Naidu, a teacher and headmaster in Chittoor district. He planned the SVET as a center of higher learning open to all, regardless of national origin, religious beliefs or social background. From a student body of 216, its enrollment has grown to nearly 10,000 students, in one school and five colleges. The full-time faculty, which initially numbered 10, is currently more than 350. The SVET, the largest private institution in the Rayalaseema region, is a collaboration of the governments of India and Andhra Pradesh.
SVET administers the following institutions:
SVET offers dining, environmental services, housing, mail, scholarships, student employment, a resource centre, television, transportation, work-study information and copying facilities. Sports at the school include cricket, volleyball, football, basketball and tennis. A technical, management and cultural festival, Mohana Mantra, was held from 22–24 February 2013.
SVET's 69,000-volume library offers Internet access.
SVET provides scholarships to OBC, SC and ST students.
