Sky Sport is a group of sports-oriented television channels operated by New Zealand's satellite pay-TV company, Sky Network Television. Sky Sport 1 was launched in 1990. A sister channel, Sky Sport 2 was launched in 1997, followed by a third channel, Sky Sport 3 in 2003. Sky Sport 4 launched in 2013.
Sky Sport 1 is the original Sky Television sport channel in New Zealand on Sky channel 51. It was first introduced in 1990 as Sky Sport on the Sky UHF service.
It is New Zealand's premium all sport channel offers a full line-up of popular local and international sporting events, often live 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.
Sky Sport 1 features New Zealand's most popular sports, including rugby union. It shows live coverage of Super Rugby and ITM Cup, and has broadcast all of the All Blacks home and away games since 1996, after purchasing the rights from TVNZ. It bought the rights to New Zealand cricket matches in 1998, and currently all of New Zealand's international cricket matches are televised live, home and away, as well as coverage from Australia, England and India.
Association football is also very big in Sky Sport in New Zealand, it shows all Hyundai A-League matches as well as matches from the Premier League. Sky Sport 1 also shows all netball international matches, and it currently shows all ANZ Championship matches live and includes replays and a weekly show called On-Court. Sky Sport 1 also shows all of the New Zealand Breakers home games in the Australia's National Basketball League.
