Before 1750, Shivajinagar was known as Bhambvade later British changed it to Bhamburde. This village is traditionally owned by Bahirat-Patil (बहिरट-पाटील). During 1717 due to some financial reasons Bahirat Patil sold their half Patilki to Shirole. Shivajinagar is an area in the heart of Pune city. This is the most important area of the city as the district court (Pune), Pune Municipal Corporation, College of Engineering (Pune), Agricultural College (Pune), Shivaji preparatory military school etc. are located in this area. The bus stand at Shivajinagar connects the city to destinations in the state of Maharashtra. Shivajinagar Railway Station is an important station for the suburban railway traffic of Pune. Resorts like the Pride Hotel and Ashish Plaza are located in this area. Ferguson College, Deccan Education Society, Marathwada Mitramandal's College'sare well known colleges in Pune city and are also located in this area. Shivajinagar is well connected to the city by local PMPML buses. This area marks the origin of Shivaji road which links this region to Swargate via Shaniwarwada and JM road & FC road which link to Deccan Gymkhana. This area also has roads like the Ambedkar road (University road) which links Pune Railway Station area to Pune University and Aundh via Shivajinagar and The Mumbai - Pune old hnational highway begins from SHivajinagar which links Pune Railway Station area via Shivajinagar, Khadki, Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Nigdi and Dehu Road.
