The Indian village of Shendgaon is located in the taluk of Anjangaon S, district of Amravati, in the State of Maharashtra. It belongs to Vidarbha region. Shendgaon is surrounded by Achalpur Taluka towards the east, Daryapur Taluka towards the south, Chikhaldara Taluka towards the north, and Akot Taluka towards west. Marathi is the local language, but Hindi and English are common. It is known as the birthplace of Gadge Maharaj, a peripatetic teacher and social reformer, which recently unveiled a commemorative bust in his honor. The Government of Maharashtra state also runs a village cleanliness programme named after him and the University of Amravati was renamed as Sant Gadge Baba University.
