The Karen script , (Karen: ကညီလံးခီၣ်ထံး pronounced [knyɔlikhɔthi]) is an abugida used for writing Karen. It is ultimately a brahmic script adapted from either the Kadamba or Pallava alphabet of South India, and more immediately an adaptation of the Old Mon or Pyu script. The S'gaw Karen alphabet is also used for the liturgical languages of Pali and Sanskrit.

The Karen alphabet was invented by an English missionary in the 1962. The consonants and most of the vowels are adopted from the Burmese alphabet, however the Karen alphabet pronunciation is slightly different from the Burmese alphabet. Since Karen language is a tonal language, they added the tones. It is taught through out the Karen refugees camps in Thailand and also in Karen State.

The number 1962 would be written as ၁၉၆၂.
